Salt Marsh Etchings
In this collection of copper plate etchings, I focus my attention on intimate observations of life in a tidal salt marsh.
Salt Marsh
When I was a child, I loved exploring the muddy banks of salt marshes on Cape Ann. These mucky, smelly, wetlands were so full of life; I remembering watching hermit crabs, snails and tiny fish for hours on end. I now understand how valuable these marshlands are to the health of our oceans. The constant ebb and flow of tides bring nutrients to the wetlands creating a vibrant habitat for marine life. These salt marshes also serve as a filtration system, cleaning pollutants from our water and provide a buffer from the effects of flooding and rising sea levels.
As an artist, I feel a responsibility to help others appreciate the awe inspiring beauty of nature and inspire their stewardship of the natural environment.
